Course Description:

This freshly designed course is the premier off-road triathlon in Northern California. After the wicked fast swim from the shores of Black Butte Lake athletes will be hopping on to their machines and hitting the trails. The bike route exits out of transition and heads along the wrapping shores shadowed by the Black Butte. Once the trails turns off the shore line riders will be hitting the up and over rolling hills and chutes towards the massive Black Butte. Around mile 6 the short course riders will be heading back towards transition to hit their trail run. The long course riders will be cranking away to tackle the Black Butte. Upon their approach they will be hitting the switch backs to the very top of the plateau of the Butte and its famous lava rock formation. Be careful riders taking a spill up here will not be fun and bound to get you a couple of bumps and scrapes. The decent is a bit technical with a sharp S-Turn down the backside with a quick shot down the chutes off the dam that forms the lake. From there they will head through the rolling hills linking back up with the Sprint riders to bring it back home. Once back in transition they will be heading off into the trails once again but on foot. This perfectly laid out 5k and 10k is challenging yet the most scenic portion of the day! All the way back to transition where they can collect their breath and hit the beer garden for some much needed refueling!
